About the Role
The Retail Mortgage Loan Officer (RMLO) position proactively solicits new residential mortgage loans and sells CU mortgage products to meet established loan quality and production goals. At least 50% of the RMLO’s time will be spent marketing outside the credit union. RMLOs are considered role models and will often be partnered with MLO I & MLO IIs to mentor and teach them.
Responsibilities
- Identifies, develops, and maintains a network of outside business relationships to generate recurring mortgage lending opportunities.
- Promotes home ownership through community involvement.
- Responds to member inquiries and referrals from various channels.
- Conducts interviews with prospective borrowers to analyze financial and credit data, determine financing objectives, and provide advice on loan products.
- Meets with members and borrowers during the lending process.
- Provides accurate and up-to-date loan program/policy information to members and business partners.
- Ensures an exceptional member experience by overseeing the loan process from origination to close.
- Achieves or exceeds production goals set by the Credit Union’s Mortgage Department.
- Assesses borrower financing objectives and advises on the best mortgage programs.
- Identifies opportunities to sell additional products.
- Completes mortgage applications via Blend and Encompass, collects fees, and orders appraisals and title reports.
- Works with Mortgage Loan Coordinators to ensure timely submission to Underwriting and fulfillment of loan conditions.
- Tracks deadlines to avoid extensions or loss of property/earnest money.
- Counsels members denied loans on credit improvement.
- Attends and completes required training and maintains knowledge of lending programs, policies, and regulations.
- Conducts and attends regional meetings with MLO I’s and II’s.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience: 2 years in a progressive financial lending setting; mortgage experience preferred.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; two-year college degree or specialized course of study preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: Ability to obtain NMLS number (required by the S.A.F.E. Act).
Skills
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Experience with Encompass, Blend, and Optimal Blue preferred.
- Typing speed of 35-40 words per minute.
- Ability to read and interpret financial documents, write reports, and communicate effectively.
- Attention to detail and exceptional customer service skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Adaptive to change and proactive problem-solving abilities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, talk, and hear consistently.
- Occasional standing, walking, and handling/reaching.
- Close and distance vision required.
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
- Moderate noise environment (typical office setting).
