About the Role
The Mortgage Advisor delivers expert real estate lending guidance through financial counseling and product awareness to Credit Union members, addressing their real estate financing needs while generating investment-quality mortgage loans to support loan growth objectives.
Responsibilities
- Provide financial counseling by interviewing, pre-qualifying, and guiding members through the mortgage loan application process. Time: 50%
- Monitor and manage the sales pipeline of mortgage applications, including:
- Following up with mortgage operations personnel to track loan status and outstanding conditions.
- Assisting with clearing underwriting conditions as needed.
- Restructuring loan terms and programs when necessary.
- Monitoring interest rate lock periods to prevent expiration.
- Verifying closing figures with operations personnel prior to loan closing.
- Develop and maintain relationships with the real estate and builder community to promote real estate loan programs. Represent the Credit Union at community real estate functions and deliver educational presentations. Time: 20%
- Collaborate with branch lending personnel regarding real estate programs and provide educational support to branches and members. Time: 10%
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three years of real estate lending experience.
- NMLS registration required upon hire.
Skills and Qualifications
- Thorough business knowledge of the real estate lending industry, including secondary market skills.
- Excellent communication skills and knowledge of real estate laws, regulations, policies, and compliance.
- Ability to develop or improve loan products and strategies for seminars, presentations, and trade shows.
- Strong mathematical skills and proficiency in performing complex financial calculations using a financial calculator.
- Strong proficiency with sales systems, including CRM, origination software, and Microsoft Office applications. Specific knowledge of Ellie Mae Encompass origination software preferred.

- External Environment: Some overnight travel may be required.
- Hours: Length of day is unpredictable; long hours may be required to meet deadlines or attend special meetings.
