At Lee’s Marketplace, a Dairy Clerk plays a key role in maintaining a clean, well-stocked, and organized dairy department. This position is responsible for stocking shelves, rotating products, checking expiration dates, and ensuring that dairy items are fresh and presented attractively. Dairy Clerks provide friendly, helpful customer service and contribute to a safe, clean, and welcoming shopping environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily operations of the Dairy Department including product ordering, receiving, stocking, rotation, and merchandising to maximize sales and product quality.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by answering questions, locating items, handling concerns professionally, and offering product suggestions.
  • Ensure department cleanliness and that all food safety, temperature, storage, and sanitation guidelines are followed to meet health and company standards.
  • Report inventory needs and maintenance issues to the Dairy Manager.
  • Maintain cohesive and supportive communication with vendors and partners.
  • Greet customers warmly and offer assistance in locating or learning about dairy products.
  • Resolve customer complaints or product concerns professionally and promptly.
  • Provide recommendations and product knowledge to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Coordinate with guests regarding special orders.
  • Ensure shelves are fully stocked and presentable to support a positive guest impression.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the displays throughout the store according to store standards.
  • Ensure product freshness by verifying date coding on items and proper rotation of product (FIFO).
  • Effective inventory control through ordering and stocking of the entire Dairy department.
  • Record all damaged product and rework or store in designated backroom cooler areas.
  • Order, receive, and stock dairy products using proper rotation to ensure freshness.
  • Handle all products safely and according to food safety guidelines, including cold chain management.
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels through cycle counts and shrink control.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Follow all safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Report any safety hazards or equipment issues to management.
  • Work cooperatively with team members to achieve store goals.
  • Promote a high level of morale within the department and store through friendly and professional communication.
  • Provide a safe, clean, and positive environment; support a culture based on relationships and continuous improvement.
  • Build knowledge and skills through training and education of self and other team members.
  • Attend team meetings and training sessions.
  • Assist other departments as needed.
  • Work with the team to ensure products are sold well before their expiration date.

Requirements

  • Age Requirement: 16 years or older.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, twist, sit, and bend for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity for handling small objects and operating equipment.
  • Repetitive use of hands and arms to push, pull, carry, lift, reach, grip, and balance.
  • Occasionally stoop, crouch, kneel, or crawl.
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the store.
  • Lifting may include floor to shoulder and overhead lifting repeatedly.
  • Occasional use and climbing of step stools or ladders.

  • Hand-held ordering machine

  • Any other tools and machinery deemed necessary for the role.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Applicants currently working toward completion are welcome to apply.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Previous customer service experience preferred.
