Montessori - Para Educator

About the role

The Montessori Para-Educator assists both Pre-Kindergarten-8th grade students and teachers with classroom preparation and tasks to support the learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Aid in instructional tasks for individual students or small groups.
• Support recordkeeping, work checking, material preparation, and distribution.
• Communicate between the school and families, attending Parent-Staff Meetings.
• Participate in in-service workshops and observe student performance.
• Plan and implement appropriate instructional activities based on observations.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED certification.
• Sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited institution, or equivalent.
• Prior to 2017, passing scores on the Work keys test or the ETS test.
• CDA credential, Associate Degree in Early Childhood/Child Development, or completed coursework towards a CDA or Associate Degree.
• Completion of 45 hours of Montessori Assistant Training.

Qualifications

• Willingness to attend and complete Montessori Assistant Training.

Skills

• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of Montessori educational principles and practices.

Benefits

• Bargaining Unit: Detroit Federation of Paraprofessionals (DFP).

Pay

$17.33/hr.

School-based. Not eligible for telecommuting.
