Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education and teacher certification preferred
American Montessori Society (AMS) Certification preferred
Experience working and/or teaching in a Montessori environment preferred
Experience working with young children in a classroom setting
Excellent classroom management skills to facilitate a safe, nurturing, and positive academic environment
Essential Functions: Responsibilities
- To assist students with exercises and class activities, concentrating efforts with small groups of students and individuals as necessary
- To assist individual students when needed
- To compile, prepare, and organize materials and the classroom for instruction and activities
- To assist in the cleaning and storing of materials after completion of activities
- To reinforce all knowledge and skills taught by the Lead Teacher
- To model proper behavior and play
- To prepare daily snacks for students
- To assist teachers by recording attendance and monitoring student work
- To communicate all parent requests to the Lead Teacher promptly
- To refer all parent concerns and queries to the Lead Teacher related to student performance and or behavior
- To interact with various individuals such as teachers, administrators, staff, parent volunteers, etc.
- To substitute as the Lead Teacher as needed
- To escort students to other areas on campus, monitor student behavior, check home materials/folders, and run errands as deemed necessary by the Lead Teacher
- To supervise and assist students during drop-off and pick-up, in the halls, on field trips, during classroom work time, lunch, and on school grounds
- To coordinate and/or participate in special programs or projects as assigned
- To attend staff meetings and participate in in-service trainings as required
- To receive and respond to inquiries and requests for assistance in areas of responsibility
- To attend trainings, in-service, workshops, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills
- To perform related duties as required
Additional Responsibilities
- To be responsible for the care and maintenance of an orderly environment and clean classroom materials
- To be responsible, in collaboration with the Lead Teacher, for the safety and physical well-being of the students at all times

- Ability to implement and promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging practices
- To have an attitude of collegiality and to be able to communicate effectively, positively, and collaboratively with the educational team and especially parents
- To be able to build and foster positive, professional relationships with parents
- To be a positive ambassador for Saint Mary’s Hall in the larger community
- To be able to meet the demands and challenges of a fast-paced work environment and demonstrate flexibility as needed
- To possess a good working knowledge of and/or a familiarity with a variety of instructional technologies, such as Windows applications, iPad integration, interactive whiteboard, and student portfolio applications, and a willingness to implement new instructional technology initiatives
Physical Requirements And Work Environment
- Work in a fast-paced environment, dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
- May work at a desk and computer for extended periods
- May occasionally work events, nights, or weekends
- Must be able to teach, instruct, and communicate with students, parents, coworkers, visitors, and other professionals
- Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
