Responsibilities

  • Monitor and review patient information to determine baseline cardiac rhythm
  • Demonstrate competency in telemetry lead placement for accurate cardiac rhythm analysis
  • Analyze cardiac rhythm and record measurements, calculations, and interpretations in the patient record every 6 hours and as needed, following established protocols
  • Notify Registered Nurse of cardiac rhythm or rhythm component changes and follow current escalation protocol
  • Notify Registered Nurse if patient is off monitor and follow current escalation protocol
  • Maintain current knowledge of the technical operation of the central monitoring station
  • Maintain and check high and low alarm settings on every telemetry patient each shift
  • Provide and accept shift reports to ensure current patient information is communicated
  • Work with assigned nursing personnel to coordinate initiation and discontinuation of telemetry
  • Identify and troubleshoot routine technical problems with the central monitoring system and initiate biomedical repairs as necessary
  • Advance knowledge of cardiac rhythm analysis and interpretation
  • Protect patient confidentiality and sensitive data at all times
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and federal, state, and local standards
  • Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures
  • Safeguard electronic equipment by keeping liquids away from computers, telemetry monitors, and phones
  • Maintain a physical environment conducive to continuous telemetry monitoring, including noise reduction and minimal foot traffic
  • Answer the telephone promptly and courteously, identifying yourself and responding to requests
  • Support new ideas and promote positive change; remain calm and helpful during stressful situations
  • Attend staff meetings and meet all mandatory education requirements
  • Demonstrate commitment to service, organizational values, and professionalism through appropriate conduct and demeanor
  • Enthusiastically support and participate in planned changes
  • Participate in performance improvement activities as assigned
  • Consistently utilize time and resources effectively and efficiently
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • For Monitor Technicians with prior related experience and ECG competency assessment:
    • Must pass Rhythm Test with a grade of 84% or higher. If below 84%, must complete Orlando Health’s basic ECG course and pass the exam within 60 days
  • For Monitor Technicians without prior related experience:
    • Must complete Orlando Health’s basic ECG course and pass the Rhythm Test within 60 days with a grade of 84% or higher
  • BLS/Health Care Provider certification required
