Molecular Medical Technologist

About the role

The Medical Technologist-Molecular plays a crucial role in analyzing patient samples, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring accurate and timely reporting of results. This role demands a deep understanding of medical laboratory procedures, excellent analytical skills, and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

• Perform a variety of laboratory tests on patient samples using automated and manual methods, including nucleic acid isolation, microarrays, PCR, qPCR, and NGS.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, troubleshoot issues, and perform routine maintenance on instruments such as KingFisher, Hamilton MicroLab Star, MiSeq, Agilent Bravo, and others.
• Maintain accurate record keeping utilizing Good Documentation Practices for daily quality control and corrective action for any laboratory protocol deviations.
• Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity.
• Assist in the training and supervision of laboratory assistants and other staff members.

Qualifications

• Basic Minimum Education Qualifications: Bachelor of science degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
• Basic Minimum Work Requirements: ASCP, AMT, AAB, or equivalent certification. Proficient laboratory skills such as use of micropipettes, multichannel pipettes, performing dilutions, and appropriate safety measures when handling samples and reagents. Current knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance standards including CAP, CLIA, FDA, OSHA. Experience with molecular, molecular microbiology, and/or genetics in a clinical laboratory setting, preferred. Experience with Thermo KingFisher and QuantStudio, Hamilton MicroLab STAR, Illumina MiSeq and iSCAN, Agilent Bravo, Tecan Freedom EVO, preferred.
