Project/Unit Description
The Operations Research Branch (ORB) of the Signals and Systems Division (SASD) in the Advanced Concepts Laboratory (ACL) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Model-Based Systems Engineer in Atlanta, Georgia. The branch engages in research related to high-impact technical analysis for U.S. Government projects, focusing on shaping next-generation technical capabilities and strengthening national defense through leading-edge research and analytic support.
Skills
- BS in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
- At least two (2) years of experience with Cameo Systems Modeler or its related family of tools, including Teamwork Cloud
- Familiarity with UPDM
- Experience with at least one of the following languages: Python, C++, Java
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Active TS/SCI Clearance preferred
Key Responsibilities
- Lead task teams in the authoring of UAF models capturing stakeholder needs and resulting enterprise architectures, SysML models capturing system requirements and design, and data models capturing system data requirements and design
- Direct sponsor engagement and facilitate product or system requirements gathering and analysis
- Verify systems engineering product life-cycle including definition, requirements analysis, synthesis, systems analysis and implementation
- Develop technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system attributes in a SysML model
- Implement approaches that foster reusability of existing model expressions
Additional Responsibilities
- Use government open architecture standards in modeling, especially Big Iron, AMS GRA, and A-GRA
- Integrate with study planning, mission modeling, and data analysis functional teams
- Generate and document systems requirements and design implementations
- Contribute to the innovative, cutting-edge software research using Independent Research and Development (IRAD)
Required Minimum Qualifications
- BS in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
- At least two (2) years of experience with Cameo Systems Modeler or its related family of tools, including Teamwork Cloud
- Familiarity with UPDM
- Experience with at least one of the following languages: Python, C++, Java
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Active TS/SCI Clearance preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- MS or PhD in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited degree program relevant to this position will be considered
- Experience developing complex, software-intensive, military or avionics systems using system engineering processes and methodologies
- Familiarity with military open system standards (e.g. OMS/UCI, FACE, SOSA, Big Iron, AMS GRA, A-GRA, WOSA)
- Familiarity with UAFF
- Familiarity with SysML 2.0
- Experience utilizing DevOps tools such as the Atlassian tool suite or GitLab
- Experience with mission-level modeling and simulation tools such as AFSIM
- Direct contribution to business development opportunities: identifying leads, preparing proposals, and obtaining contract awards
- Direct leadership, supervision, or management of a team
- Travel Requirements: 10% - 25%

- 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related discipline
- 3 years of related experience with a Masters’ degree in Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related discipline
- 0 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related discipline
U.S. Citizenship Requirements
Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
