Responsibilities
- Prepare and position patient before and after skilled care provided by nurse or rehab therapist.
- Demonstrates safe and effective ambulation, positioning, support or assistance techniques in patient care activities, as directed by the nurse or rehab therapist.
- Observes all precautions.
- Seeks clarification on goals of session and ensures patients is optimally positioned for care.
- Afford patient safety and comfort with room setup and comfort items within reach after skilled care by nurse or rehab therapist.
- Follows safe patient handling guidelines consistently.
- Identifies need for additional resources and/or equipment to move patients safely.
- Attends all scheduled training to ensure competence on all equipment utilized in the role.
- Demonstrates ability to safely mobilize patient within bed, to/from chair, toilet/commode and on unit with appropriate patients identified by nurse or rehab therapist.
- Setup, adjust and take down mobility equipment including, but not limited to, mechanical lifts; walkers; canes; crutches; commodes.
- Provides safe and effective assistance for completion of assigned patient care while observing all precautions.
- Documents inpatient interventions in the EMR and follows up with nurse in a timely manner as needed.
- Completes all hospital and department specific requirements.
Requirements
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers, or equivalent course credentialed by American Heart Association within 30 days of hire.
Qualifications
- High school or equivalent (GED) required.
