About the role
Cox Fleet is seeking a Mobile Trailer Technician I to support the company's growth. This position involves performing DOT inspections, preventive maintenance, light repairs, and other duties at customer sites. The role requires adherence to company policies and achieving high performance metrics.
Responsibilities
- Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
- Manage parts inventory and equipment on company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliations.
- Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Apply knowledge acquired through formal training or on-the-job experience to perform job duties.
- Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve issues, or meet expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work activities, and allocate time effectively.
- Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, retrieve PO numbers, or discuss RO findings.
- Document work performed according to company standards and upload pictures of repairs, parts used, and findings on company-issued iOS device and proprietary TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other forms of documentation in a timely manner.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and DOT inspections, and follow up on repairs in a mobile/field environment.
- Respond to call center dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks to perform repairs and adjustments.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with assigned customers and vendors.
- Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings notes.
- Participate in and complete all-in company required safety training.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with assigned customers and vendors.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of trailers, equipment, and systems, including trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
- Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures.
- Remain up-to-date on safety protocols and procedures.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED with up to 2 years' experience in a related field.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
- Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
- Obtain 608/609 certification within 18 months.
- Pass DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
- Valid driver's license with more than four (4) months remaining on DOT medical card.
Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods of time; ability to perform moderately heavy laboring work.
- Ability to accurately judge distances and perform repetitive tasks.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to determine the type of tools and equipment needed.
