Mobile Software Research and Development Postgraduate Fellowship
What will I be doing?
As an ORISE participant, you will join a community of scientists, engineers, and researchers in an effort to develop medical clinical decision support systems utilizing extended reality technology. You will participate in various projects utilizing software engineering, human factors usability, and design/visualization in developing applications to optimize combat casualty care. These projects include software mobile application development to support extended reality technologies, machine learning pipeline integration, integration of sensors/devices to mobile platforms, and creating novel clinical decision support applications for our warfighters. This is an excellent opportunity for someone eager to grow skills in software development in mobile platform systems that integrate clinical applicability.
Why should I apply?
- Designing, developing and implementing mobile devices (tablets, phones, headsets) for clinical decision support systems.
- Writing code using programming languages such as C#, C++, Python, Kotlin, Java or Swift.
- Developing and implementing APIs between various systems.
- Learning and gaining experience in game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine to create mixed environments and interactions.
- Using SwiftUI and Xcode platforms.
- Creating graphical 3D holographic designs.

What is the appointment length?
This appointment is a twelve-month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant

The U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research is one of six research laboratories within the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command of the U.S. Army Medicine Command. About ORISE
This program, administered by Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and DoD. Participants do not enter an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DoD or any other office or agency. Instead, you will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Health insurance can be obtained through ORISE.
