Mobile OBOT Peer Recovery Specialist
About the Role
A Peer Recovery Specialist provides recovery-oriented, peer-specific supports for individuals with mental health and substance use challenges. Utilizing lived experience, training, and resources, the specialist offers mentorship, education, advocacy, motivation, and outreach while modeling recovery with integrity. The role involves linking individuals to recovery services and fostering empowerment through choice, knowledge, and advocacy.
Responsibilities
- Engages individuals in recovery services and supports.
- Seeks opportunities to motivate individual efforts to maintain recovery.
- Provides information on recovery-related strategies, services, and coping skills.
- Assists individuals in identifying and connecting to community resources.
- Encourages empowerment through choice in services, knowledge about addiction, and advocacy.
- Provides 1:1 mentorship.
- Facilitates recovery and relapse prevention-focused groups.
- Offers insight and support by sharing lived experience in a recovery and resiliency-focused manner.
- Utilizes individuals' natural supports to help create stability and ongoing care.
- Provides outreach to promote participation in recovery services, including doctor appointments, therapy, support groups, and employment-related activities.
- Offers sober companionship, bridging addiction-related social interactions to healthy, resiliency-promoting natural supports.
- Educates individuals in coping strategies, recovery principles, community resources, and potential lifestyle changes.
- Monitors individual service plans in collaboration with the individual, their family, and other service providers.
- Completes necessary documentation, including collaborative Recovery, Resiliency, and Wellness Plans, progress notes, and quarterly reviews.
- Provides supportive counseling.
- Collaborates with treatment staff concerning individual progress and concerns.
- Reports health, safety, and other concerns regarding the individual to appropriate treatment team members.
- Participates in trainings on peer support topics and services.
- Provides a supportive atmosphere for individuals receiving services.
Requirements
- Ability to share personal, lived experience in a hopeful, positive, recovery-promoting way.
- Thorough understanding of recovery resources and processes.
- Ability to establish rapport and maintain trust.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and components of recovery.
- Knowledge of individual supportive counseling practices and techniques, including crisis intervention.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agency staff and external partners.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate a vehicle and function calmly in crisis situations.
- Ability to prepare and maintain detailed records.
- Must demonstrate:

Qualifications
High School Diploma or Associate degree with personal experience and knowledge of the wellness and recovery process. Considerable experience in providing formal peer/recovery support services is required.
