About the Role
This role involves inspecting equipment, identifying defects, and performing necessary welding tasks. Expertise in various welding techniques is essential, along with a commitment to safe work practices and adherence to OceanaGold's standard operating procedures.
Responsibilities
- Follow verbal and written instructions accurately and consistently.
- Demonstrate general knowledge of procedures and material usage.
- Proficiently weld with 1/16 and .045 dual shield MIG wire in the following positions with minimal errors:
- Vertical
- Overhead
- Flat
- Horizontal
- Perform simple basic fabrication with minimal direction.
- Demonstrate ability to air arc and stick weld.
- Set up oxygen/acetylene cutting torch, select proper size tip for material, and cut material with minimal defects.
- Set up and run a track torch.
- Demonstrate proficiency and efficiency in air arcing.
- Flame cut complex shapes in 2” material with minimal defects.
- Fabricate more complex and larger-scale projects, following drawn documents or verbal directions.
- Provide input and problem-solve with minimal supervision.
- Rough set up line bore equipment.
- Use bore tech welder to weld bore holes.
- Stick weld in multiple positions with minimal defects.
- TIG weld ferrous and non-ferrous material.
- Prepare and perform tasks with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, including client deliverables.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a construction or mining environment (preferred).
- Fabrication experience (preferred).
- AWS D1.1 / D1.1M Certification (preferred but not required).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proper welding certification/completion.
