About the role
Mobile Equipment Operators help keep Louisiana’s roads and bridges safe by operating equipment to support maintenance and construction work. This is an outdoor, physically active role that may involve varying weather conditions, shift work, night work, overtime, travel, or emergency call-outs depending on assignment. Positions are located in Mansfield, District 04, Unit 560 and report to the Highway Foreman.
A 10% base pay increase is granted upon attainment of permanent status (where applicable). No experience is required — training is provided, with opportunities for career progression.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy and specialized equipment used in road and bridge maintenance
- Assist with construction, repair, and upkeep of highways and bridges
- Perform routine equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
- Support traffic control, cleanup, and emergency response activities
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Perform physical tasks such as lifting, loading materials, and using hand and power tools
- Assist or guide lower-level operators as needed
This role requires reliability, safety awareness, and the ability to adapt to changing work conditions.
Requirements
- Mobile Equipment Operator 1: Class D, Chauffer’s License will be required upon appointment
- Mobile Equipment Operator 2: Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment
- Mobile Equipment Operator 1/Heavy: Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment
No prior experience or training is required.
Pay
- Mobile Equipment Operator 1: Starting salary $16.06/hourly, plus $1.00/hour premium pay for every hour worked
- Mobile Equipment Operator 2: Starting salary $17.18/hourly, plus $1.00/hour premium pay for every hour worked
- Mobile Equipment Operator 1/Heavy: Starting salary $21.05/hourly; additional compensation may be considered for extraordinary qualifications
A 10% base pay increase is granted upon attainment of permanent status.
