Mobile Engineer III

Team and Role Overview

Our Technology Team partners with teams across Expedia Group to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high‑quality experiences for travelers, partners, and employees. The Mobile Engineer III (iOS) role is part of the VR Differentiators team within the Multi‑Channel Shopping organization, owning critical Tier‑1 applications for Vacation Rentals across brands such as Vrbo and Expedia.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship high‑quality iOS features using Swift and modern frameworks (SwiftUI and/or UIKit) to deliver a polished, performant, and accessible user experience.
• Translate product and experience requirements into clear technical designs, including low‑level design, API design, and data modeling for mobile client integration.
• Implement testable Swift code, apply robust debugging practices, and participate in code reviews to maintain engineering standards.
• Collaborate with Android, Web, and backend teams to deliver reliable features that integrate with backend services, shared components, and experimentation platforms.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and pairing sessions, and help elevate the team’s engineering practices.
• Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions, applying AI/ML concepts to real‑world products.
• Contribute to shared mobile patterns, tooling, and best practices to enable reusable solutions across multiple iOS applications.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in Swift and iOS/iPadOS development, with expertise in software architecture, systems integration, and modern UI frameworks (SwiftUI, UIKit) including modular UI design.
• 3+ years of experience with mobile architectures (MVVM, VIPER), covering state management, dependency injection, navigation patterns, modularization, and testability.
• Proven ownership of features or services within an iOS application, including API integration, data modeling, and low‑level design.
• Proficiency with core iOS concepts such as UIKit/SwiftUI, concurrency, networking, persistence, and automated testing.
• Familiarity with AI‑driven systems, tools, or workflows and ability to safely integrate AI/ML‑enabled capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience integrating REST/GraphQL APIs and building resilient mobile data layers with offline handling, caching, error management, and on‑device persistence.
• Proficiency with Xcode, Git, and mobile CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Bitrise).
• Strong focus on quality and performance through unit, integration, and UI testing (XCTest, XCUITest) and profiling with Instruments.
• Experience building and scaling large consumer‑facing mobile apps, including A/B testing, feature flagging, and experimentation frameworks.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and backend services supporting mobile applications.
• Effective collaboration in agile, cross‑functional teams with strong communication and technical leadership skills.

Location and Work Model

This role is based in Austin, TX. Employees are expected to be in the office at least three days per week. Relocation assistance is not provided.

Pay

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $146,000.00 to $204,500.00, with the potential to increase up to $233,500.00 based on performance. Starting pay varies based on location, budget, and individual experience.
