Responsibilities
- Perform work as outlined on repair orders with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
- Diagnose causes of malfunctions and repair diesel trucks or equipment.
- Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
- Save and tag parts if under warranty or requested by the customer.
- Examine assigned vehicles to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
- Communicate with the service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if outlined work is unnecessary, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
- Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
- Road test vehicles when required or refer to the test technician.
- Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
- Stay updated on manufacturer technical bulletins.
- Supervise work of apprentice diesel technicians as assigned.
- Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
- Ensure customers' vehicles are kept clean and notify the service advisor of any changes in appearance or condition.
- Maintain a neat and clean shop area for safety.
- Be accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals, returning them to the proper place in the same condition.
- Understand, comply with, and stay abreast of federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know).
- Operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner and report safety issues immediately to management.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of heavy truck experience preferred
- Valid Driver’s License (required)
- Ability to meet insurability requirements
- Safety shoes required on the first day of employment; approved safety footwear must be worn at all times in designated shop and service areas
- Background screening is mandatory for employment consideration
