About the role
GTG Peterbilt – Cedar Rapids is a family-owned full-service Peterbilt truck dealership serving eastern Iowa since 1973. We are seeking a Mobile Diesel Technician to travel to client sites and provide maintenance, repair, and diagnostic services for diesel vehicles and equipment. Most common service calls include scheduled services, breakdown response, DOT inspections, and scheduled PM services upon request. Service areas include Cedar Rapids, Quad Cities, and Waterloo.
Responsibilities
- Perform instructed and scheduled repair, maintenance, and services on various vehicles and equipment as directed by the Service Manager.
- Maintain vehicle functional condition by listening to operator concerns, conducting CVI and DOT inspections, diagnosing and repairing minor engine issues, and addressing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions.
- Replace basic parts and components and verify vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
- Communicate professionally with customers and Service Management on job and schedule status.
- Maintain appearance and service truck in a professional manner, including inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
- Stock and maintain service truck inventory, tools, and all necessary paperwork daily (candidate to provide own tools).
- Adhere to all traffic laws and work independently while communicating with the team as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years’ experience with diesel truck and trailer repair, maintenance, and diagnostics.
- DOT Inspection Certified (additional schooling and certifications preferred).
- Ability to provide sufficient tool inventory to perform job duties.
- Physical requirements: standing, bending, lifting (50+ lbs.), and sitting for long periods in varied temperatures and weather conditions.
- Strong customer service and communication skills with direct customer interaction experience.
- Neat, legible handwriting and proficient computer skills.
- Current CDL or ability to attain within 90 days of hire.
- Clean driving record; pre-employment drug screening and background check required.

- Combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
