About the role

Cox Fleet is hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II to perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. This role involves working in a mobile/field environment, servicing light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles. The Technician II can perform advanced diagnostics and repairs under supervision while continuing to develop advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck systems, including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, air conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper functionality.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to evaluate alternatives.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Work effectively with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
  • Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work-related activities and time allocations.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders ("RO") using a company-issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Work with a high degree of independence and manage your daily schedule.
  • Maintain high productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
  • Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, purchase orders, or RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, as well as federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Maintain the company-issued service truck, conducting safety checks and daily pre/post-trip inspections.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years of experience in a related field. Alternatively, any level of degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline or 5 years of experience in a related field.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months of employment.
  • Ability to successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
  • Must be at least 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license required; must be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.

Pay

Hourly pay rate ranges from $32.31 to $48.46 per hour. The base rate may vary based on location, candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Additional compensation may include commission or incentive programs.

Days: Friday to Monday
Hours: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
