About the role

Cox Fleet is hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician II to perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, advanced mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. This role serves as a lead on jobsites, providing advanced diagnostics and triage for complicated repairs, and acts as a consultant on the customer's behalf.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment, including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, air conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to evaluate alternatives.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Work with and listen to clients and customers to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
  • Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work-related activities, and allocate time effectively.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using a company-issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Work with a high degree of independence and manage your daily schedule.
  • Maintain high productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
  • Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, purchase orders, or to discuss RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Maintain company-issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and perform daily pre/post-trip inspections.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field. Alternatively, any level of degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline or 5 years’ experience in a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
  • OEM training and certifications are preferred.
  • Participate in and complete all company-required training.
  • Must successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
  • Due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations, candidates must be at least 21 years or older.
  • Valid driver’s license required; must be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.

  • ASE T8 (PMI) certification
  • ASE 608/609 certification

  • ASE T4 (Brakes) certification
  • ASE T5 (Suspension) certification
  • ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems) certification
  • ASE T7 (HVAC) certification
  • ASE A8 (Engine Performance) certification
  • ASE L1 (Advanced Engine Performance Specialist)
  • ASE L2 (Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis Specialist) certification

Skills & Abilities

Pay

Hourly pay rate is in the range of $29.38 - $44.09/hour. The base rate may vary based on location, candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. The position may also be eligible for additional compensation, such as commission or incentive programs.
