Mobile Diesel Mechanic II Afternoons (Some Weekends)
About the role
Cox Fleet is hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II to perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. This role involves working in a mobile/field environment, managing parts inventory, and operating a company-issued service vehicle. The Diesel Technician II can perform advanced diagnostics and repairs under supervision while continuing to develop advanced mechanical skills.
Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck systems, including air conditioning systems.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper functionality.
- Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to evaluate alternatives.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information, and resolve problems.
- Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work-related activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders ("RO") using a company-issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
- Work with a high degree of independence and manage your daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors as necessary for repairs.
- Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, purchase orders, or discussions on RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, as well as federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Maintain the company-issued service truck, conducting safety checks and daily pre/post-trip inspections.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years' experience in a related field. Alternatively, any level of degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline or 5 years' experience in a related field.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
- Must successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
- Due to interstate commerce regulations, candidates must be at least 21 years or older.
- Valid driver's license required; must be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.

Pay
Hourly pay rate in the range of $29.38 - $44.09 per hour. The base rate may vary based on factors such as location and the candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. The position may also be eligible for additional compensation, including commission and incentive programs.
Schedule
Afternoons and some weekends.
