About the role

Cox Fleet is hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II to perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Mobile Diesel Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, continuing to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT Inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of truck equipment, including but not limited to:
    • Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems
    • Starters/Alternators
    • Fan clutches
    • Engine electronics
    • Diesel steering systems
    • Engines (gas and diesel)
    • Transmissions (manual and automatic)
    • Clutches
    • Differentials
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment, including but not limited to:
    • Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems
    • Starters/Alternators
    • Air conditioning systems
    • Fan clutches
    • Engine electronics
    • Diesel steering systems
    • Engines (gas and diesel)
    • Transmissions (manual and automatic)
    • Clutches
    • Differentials
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to evaluate alternatives.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Work effectively with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work-related activities and time allocations.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using a company-issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Work with a high degree of independence and manage your own daily schedule.
  • Maintain high productivity and work within or close to most Standard Repair Times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs.
  • Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone to obtain approvals, retrieve purchase order numbers, or discuss RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, as well as federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Maintain company-issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and perform daily pre/post-trip inspections.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field. Alternatively, any level of degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline, or 5 years’ experience in a related field.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
  • Must successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
  • Due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations, candidates must be at least 21 years or older.
  • Valid driver’s license required; must hold a valid state-of-residence driver’s license and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
