Mobile Diesel Mechanic
Position Overview
The Mobile Diesel Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining motorcoaches and other commercial vehicles at customer locations and in the field. This role performs advanced diagnostics and complex mechanical and electrical repairs while serving as a technical resource for customers and internal teams. The Mobile Diesel Technician operates independently from a company-provided mobile service vehicle, delivering high-quality service and support directly at customer locations. This position requires regular travel, including overnight travel as needed, to ensure timely response to customer needs while maintaining ABC's standards for safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain motorcoaches, commercial and non-commercial vehicles, and other equipment as directed.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics across mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and electronic vehicle systems.
- Serve as a technical resource for Service Technicians I–III, assisting with complex repairs and problem resolution.
- Aid shop leadership in troubleshooting difficult repairs and identifying root causes of recurring mechanical issues.
- Ensure all repairs and diagnostic findings are accurately documented on work orders using shop computer systems and associated software.
- Maintain and promote a safe, clean, and organized work environment and adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain compliance with EPA, OSHA, DOT, and other applicable regulations.
- Identify required parts and materials needed to complete repairs and communicate with parts personnel as needed.
- Maintain accurate time and attendance reporting.
- Continuously work to expand knowledge and maintain proficiency in emerging technologies, diagnostic tools, and repair techniques.
- Demonstrate professionalism and uphold ABC’s core values at all times.
- Perform diagnostics, repairs, maintenance, and field service work at customer locations utilizing a company-provided mobile service vehicle.
- Maintain professional customer relationships while representing ABC Companies at customer facilities and job sites.
- Travel regularly, including overnight travel, to support customers throughout the assigned service territory.
- Maintain mobile service vehicle inventory, tools, equipment, and parts required to perform field repairs safely and efficiently.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of motorcoach or heavy commercial vehicle service experience required.
- Experience with heavy-duty diesel equipment strongly preferred, including tractor/trailer, heavy machinery, or material handling equipment.
- High-voltage / electric vehicle (EV) experience highly valued. Candidates with significant EV experience may be considered with slightly less coach-specific experience.
- Previous shop lead or senior technician experience preferred, but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics across complex mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and electronic vehicle systems.
- Proven ability to serve as a technical resource for other technicians and providing guidance.
- Experience performing root cause analysis and advanced diagnostics to resolve recurring mechanical or system issues.
- Must possess the tools necessary to complete assigned responsibilities.
- Experience with body and frame repairs and interior component repair and replacement.
- Audio/Video systems knowledge preferred but not required.
- EPA refrigerant certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days.
- Computer proficiency required, including Microsoft Office, service writing systems, work order tracking, and shop software.
- Valid driver’s license required. CDL Class B with passenger endorsement preferred.
- Relevant certifications (ASE, Cummins, Detroit, Allison, etc.) preferred.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively, including overnight travel as required.
- Comfortable working independently at customer locations and remote job sites utilizing a mobile service vehicle.
- Demonstrated ability to manage field service responsibilities with minimal supervision while maintaining a high level of customer service.

About the Role
This information represents our good faith estimate of the base salary range for this position upon hire, based on available data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on geographic location. Individual pay is determined by additional factors including job related skills, experience, applicable education or training and other relevant factors.
Pay
This position pays $45.00 - $60.00 / Hourly.
Schedule
Regular travel, including overnight travel, to support customers throughout the assigned service territory is required.
