About the role
REM Community Services, part of the Sevita family, provides community-based services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly supervisor role overseeing a single program or unit within a program, typically supporting 4-8 individuals in residential settings or 10-15 individuals in periodic, vocational, or day programs. Duties are split between direct support, professional or program activities, and supervision.
Responsibilities
- Supervise Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and oversee day-to-day program operations, including delivery of supports, implementation of person-centered plans, health care, advocacy, customer engagement, and regulatory compliance.
- Work 8 to 16 flexible hours per week in a supervisory capacity and provide direct support for the remaining hours.
- Services and Supports:
- Work scheduled shifts as a direct support professional (DSP).
- Document required records, review individual records, billing, and program documentation for accuracy and completion daily.
- Assist the Program Director in developing individual program plans and monitor implementation across all shifts.
- Attend and assist with routine progress meetings.
- Compliance:
- Assist the Program Director in maintaining licensing compliance and implement the Sevita compliance plan.
- Manage individual rights implementation.
- Management of Individuals’ Assets:
- Assure safety of individuals’ funds and property; monitor spending and reconcile financial accounts monthly.
- Incidents:
- Complete or assist DSPs in documenting incident reports and submit initial reports to the Program Director.
- Billing and Utilization:
- Compile or accumulate census or attendance information, review data for accuracy, and submit to the Program Director or billing authority.
- Health Care:
- Monitor health of individuals served, document, and communicate with medical professionals as needed.
- Implement preventive strategies to limit illness and serious incidents.
- Schedule or assist in scheduling health care appointments; may accompany individuals to appointments and document visits.
- Administer or support self-administration of medication, document delivery, and review medication documentation for accuracy.
- Review medication errors with employees, communicate changes, and provide training across all shifts.
- Maintain security of medications and supplies.
- Purchase and maintain medical supplies and equipment in consultation with the Program Director.
- Develop menus based on diets, preferences, and occasions; purchase or oversee purchasing of food and supplies.
- Direct and monitor food service consistent with individual plans.
- Stakeholder Relations:
- Maintain productive and professional relations with individuals, families, case managers, and other stakeholders.
- Implement Sevita Customer Service Standards and train DSPs in delivery.
- Personnel:
- Assist with recruitment, interview, and hire DSPs in consultation with the Area Director and Talent Acquisition teams.
- Populate and maintain schedules to ensure shift coverage and minimize overtime.
- Assist with onboarding, deliver orientation, and provide ongoing training on individuals served, program plans, policies, and procedures.
- Verify training records are accessible and completed by all staff.
- Prepare and conduct annual evaluations for DSPs in consultation with the Program Director.
- Coach employees, correct behavior as needed, and recommend or participate in termination decisions.
- Responsible for employee safety and workers’ compensation within the program; monitor compliance with safety standards.
- May assist with or lead monthly program meetings for DSPs; document meeting agendas and attendance.
- Financial Management:
- Purchase food, household supplies, office supplies, and minor equipment; review and attest to company credit card statements and invoices.
- Secure and safeguard individuals' funds; use forms for money/debit card transfers and update financial ledgers weekly.
- Review census, attendance, or other documentation to ensure accurate billing; monitor utilization between authorization and service provision.
- Monitor staffing hours for budgetary compliance.
- Census Management:
- Capture daily census within systems; ensure accurate and timely service capture and documentation.
- Develop understanding of census measurement and performance; escalate potential service disruptions.
- Support location preparations for expected placements (e.g., room and furniture setup, safety requirements).
- Maintenance:
- Test drive vehicles monthly, inspect lifts and seatbelts, and report safety concerns; ensure vehicles are washed and cleaned.
- Train staff in safe vehicle operation and transporting individuals; ensure routine maintenance is performed.
- Schedule and monitor daily and seasonal housekeeping; oversee lawn and yard care.
- Maintain a neat, clean, and safe environment for individuals served.
- Make or arrange for minor repairs; report and schedule repairs by maintenance personnel.
- Monitor environmental safety, water temperature, refrigerator/freezer temperature, and safety alarms monthly.
- Replace furnace filters monthly.
- Monitor wheelchairs, lifts, and other safety equipment; ensure prompt repairs for faulty equipment.
- Perform other duties as required, including backfilling roles under your supervision.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise Direct Support Professionals.
- Manage assigned personnel, including performance evaluations, orientation, and training.
- Make decisions on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, discipline, and terminations.
- Resolve employee problems within position responsibilities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of related work experience.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Working knowledge of computers.
- Current driver’s license, car registration, and auto insurance if driving on behalf of the company or transporting individuals.
- Other licensure(s) or certification(s) where required by regulatory authority.
Work Environment
Provides and oversees services or supports in residential, vocational, or in-home settings. The Program Supervisor works at the program location and is expected to visit each shift and all employees at least once per month, including supervising periodic or hourly services.
Physical Requirements
Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
