About the role

This is a 12+ month contract position with the option of extension. The role involves mentoring and guiding systems engineers with advanced problem resolution skills, focusing on planning, design, development, optimization, documentation, maintenance, and performance of the Statewide (Wide Area) Core Network.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support at a senior level for Core Network Routing and maintenance.
• Provide technical support at a senior level for installation, operation, troubleshooting, and repair of Core network hardware.
• Coordinate multiple networking projects across multiple agencies, including installations and decommissions.
• Evaluate network systems to determine the need for patches, upgrades, and analyze future technical needs.
• Develop and maintain procedures and processes, create documentation, and assist clients and other IT employees.
• Mentor, train, and provide ongoing guidance to fellow engineers.
• Install and configure large-scale Core Network equipment, including Cisco ASR 1000 and 9000-series.
• Implement disaster recovery plans.

Requirements

• Extensive knowledge of information technology theory, principles, and practices.
• Working knowledge of enterprise network devices.
• CCNP certification required; other network certifications are desired.
• Familiarity with Cisco DWDM and Nexus.
• Knowledge of Core routing, client/server network protocols, and Internet/Intranet applications.
• Extensive experience troubleshooting data networks and using troubleshooting tools.
• Ability to write clear and concise documentation of systems and procedures.
• Ability to successfully coordinate multiple projects across an enterprise network.
• Ability to read, understand, and apply information from technical manuals.
• Skill in delivering responsive, quality customer service.

Schedule

Standard daytime hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility required for sudden problems and planned system updates.
