MN Licensed School Nurse - District Wide
Position Summary
The primary goal of this position is to coordinate the delivery of health services in the public and nonpublic elementary schools located in Brainerd Public Schools. Candidate's should be skilled in working with diverse learners and populations, providing high-quality instruction, be self-directed and organized, and demonstrate a commitment to educational equity. Essential Duties
- Obtain and maintain current records of state required immunizations
- Provide annual medication administration training to staff
- Cookordinate annual hearing and vision clinics
- Oversee medication administration process
- Identify, coordinate, and oversee billing for the medical needs of Special Education students
- Respond to and coordinate services for emergency medical situations, including follow-up activities
- Develop and maintain Individual Health Plans for students with high level medical needs
- Participate in all professional development activities for certified staff
- Work with teaching staff to deliver student health education on topics such as hand washing and personal hygiene
- Participate in district and community wellness and health prevention/promotion efforts for students and staff
- Assist building nurses in the daily activities of the Health Services office at each site
- Assist parents/guardians in identifying resources for student health issues
- Manage inventory control system for supplies and equipment
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing, current Minnesota RN licensure, public health certificate
- Licensed School Nurse (LSN) form Minnesota Department of Education/PELSB or ability to meet MDE requirements
- Experience coordinating care for students with chronic health conditions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Three years of nursing experience preferred
- Able to work independently in a fast-paced office
- Understanding and knowledge of the following competencies:
- Pediatric/adolescent nursing-child development
- Public health/community health and mental health nursing
- Crisis intervention and emergency management, including CPR certification
- Infectious disease
- Special Education services
- Ability to perform skilled nursing care such as catheterization, suctioning, gastrostomy tube feedings, insulin administration and nebulizer treatments, etc.
- Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with a culturally, ethnically, racially and socioeconomically diverse school community is preferred
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Prolonged periods of standing, reaching, and bending
- Ability to lift 40 lbs
- Ability to climb stairs
- Ability to transfer individuals in and out of wheelchairs
