Essential Job Functions

• Collect specimens from patients in a manner that supports the hospital's patient relations policy.
• Conducts all tests according to departmental policies and procedures.
• Note and document test results, retesting any procedures that fall outside of acceptable ranges.
• Ensure adequate supplies are available to complete anticipated volumes of tests during the course of the assignment.
• Follows safety and infection control policies of the laboratory and all other hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
• Conducts instrument preventive maintenance as required by departmental policies and procedures on all equipment, as directed by the departmental section head.
• Performs and documents all quality control as a routine part of general testing.
• Participates in proficiency testing as designed by the section head in assigned areas.
• Demonstrates excellence in customer service skills.
• Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.
• Participates in quality improvement activities including serving on quality improvement teams.
