About the role

As a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS/MT) at Monument Health, you will be an essential team member providing compassionate, patient-focused care. You will perform routine and complex laboratory tests, assist in department procedures, and supervise new caregivers. - Up to a $10,000 sign-on bonus for qualified MLS candidates
- Up to a $7,500 sign-on bonus for qualified MLT candidates
Responsibilities
- Collect and prepare biological specimens for analysis using appropriate techniques, maintaining specimen integrity
- Determine specimen acceptability within established guidelines, avoiding hemolysis, QNS, and incorrect anticoagulant use
- Perform testing with quality, speed, and accuracy according to established protocols
- Evaluate specimen integrity and suitability for testing
- Report test results promptly to meet physician expectations
- Investigate problems related to collection, result reporting, and turn-around time
- Organize department workload for maximum efficiency
- Evaluate and interpret test results according to specifications, applying results to disease or patient therapy
- Ensure calibration and standardization of equipment, applying criteria for acceptable function and performance
- Answer telephone promptly and courteously, directing calls/questions appropriately
- Ensure smooth transition of duties between shifts by conveying pertinent information accurately
- Instruct other staff and students as needed
- Perform all other assigned duties
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or an Associate’s degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or high school graduate (or equivalent) with completion of an official military medical laboratory procedures course (minimum 50 weeks) and military enlisted occupation specialty as a medical laboratory specialist
- Certification as a Medical Lab Technician (MLT) through ASCP, AMT, or as a Military Laboratory Specialist
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, or biological sciences or Clinical Laboratory Science
- Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through ASCP, AMT, or HHS
- 1+ years of laboratory experience
Physical Requirements
- Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly
- Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues
Pay
- Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT): $23.71–$29.64 per hour
- Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS): $31.62–$39.53 per hour
- Pay determined by knowledge, skills, and experience of the applicant
