MLS - Baylor shift, Overnights

About the role

Location: 1900 N SUNRISE DR, Saint Peter, MN, 56082, United States. This is a full‑time Baylor shift (weekend‑only) position working 12‑hour overnight shifts on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (including weekend holidays), scheduled for 72 hours per two‑week period but compensated for 80 hours.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic laboratory procedures that provide timely and accurate test results for provider use in diagnosing and treating patients.
• Participate in the Laboratory's Quality Assurance Plan.
• Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by practicing River's Edge Hospital's Standards of Behavior.
• Understand that the clinical lab exists to service patients and show initiative/cooperation to maintain workflow.
• Participate in teamwork.
• Wear a Vocera every day for the whole shift to communicate with other departments and co‑workers.
• Recognize testing and lab priorities and act accordingly.
• Exercise good judgment in non‑routine situations.
• Communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with other workers, supervisors, patients, and the public.
• Communicate test results, normal ranges, and specimen requirements.
• Answer inquiries about test results, methods, specificity, sensitivity, and factors that can influence results.
• Seek assistance or clarification when needed; accept constructive criticism.
• Adhere to federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines (OSHA, CLIA).
• Adapt to changes in practice, accept and implement approved changes, and learn new tasks.
• Take responsibility for own career development, seeking out and participating in appropriate continuing education.
• Manage stress and resolve conflicts.
• Perform EKGs (Mortara ELI 380), EKG Rhythm Strip‑Lead II when ordered, right‑sided EKGs when ordered, and pediatric EKGs.
• Perform only waived, moderate, and/or high complexity tests authorized by the Lab Manager that match the individual's education, training, experience, and technical abilities.
• Follow the Lab's procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
• Properly identify and collect adequate specimens via venipuncture, capillary collection, and arterial collection (radial only).
• Participate in proficiency testing program.
• Adhere to the Laboratory's quality control policy and procedures; document all QC activities, instrument and procedure calibrations, and maintenance.
• Follow the Lab's established policies whenever test systems are not within acceptable performance levels.
• Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting; correct the problem or immediately notify the Lab Manager, Senior Lab Tech, Technical Supervisor, or Clinical Consultant.
• Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
• Possess a working knowledge of reagent stability and storage.
• Be knowledgeable and adhere to the Patient Bill of Rights and hospital policies relating to privacy, confidentiality, and respect (HIPAA).
• Know, follow, and promote facility policies and procedures including Infection Control, Safety, Quality Assurance, Lab's Chemical Hygiene Program, etc.
• Be flexible with sharing scheduled weekends, holidays, evening shift, and overnight scheduled shift.
• Be willing to serve on facility committees when asked (e.g., Employee Safety Committee).
• Be willing to participate in CQI and other lab projects.
• Be flexible with sharing training duties for new employees and MLT/MLS students with other Lab personnel when requested.
• Be trained and certified to collect Urine Drug Screens for DOT and Non‑DOT employees.
