Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and deliver English instruction aligned with state and federal standards, ensuring students meet and exceed learning targets.
  • Provide consistent instruction in English language skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and grammar.
  • Support students in accessing content across all subjects.
  • Develop and deliver lesson plans using a broad range of teaching techniques and strategies.
  • Address all aspects of communication through instruction that develops reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
  • Monitor and administer student progress, including academic and language assessments, to evaluate growth and language acquisition.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth.
  • Foster a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies.
  • Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, or remedial instruction as needed.
  • Establish and maintain classroom behavior standards aligned with school culture.
  • Employ varied instructional techniques to meet diverse student aptitudes and interests.
  • Manage learning time effectively to maximize student achievement.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to discuss student progress and best practices.
  • Travel between campuses as necessary to ensure delivery of instruction.

Reporting Relationship & Evaluation

This position reports to the Associate Director of Student Services and School Directors. Feedback includes biweekly informal observations and interactions, weekly check-ins, and formal evaluations twice per year.

Qualifications

  • New Jersey ESL Teacher Certificate (required).
  • 3+ years of experience (preferred).
  • Experience serving students from linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Commitment to Great Oaks Legacy Charter School’s core values and practices.
  • Urban school-based work experience and excellent verbal/written communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Experience analyzing student data and creating action plans to support student goals.
  • Openness to feedback and willingness to take responsibility for student success.
  • Attention to detail and flexibility under pressure.
  • Successful completion of required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of the Science of Reading and its application to Multilingual Learners.
  • SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) training.
  • Experience in a high-performing district or charter environment.
  • Experience with students in K-8.
