Responsibilities

• Provide clinical assessment and advice on management and treatment of patients with intellectual disability and psychiatric comorbidity, assisting primary care providers and supports to deliver person-centred care.
• Conduct outpatient clinics via a flexible combination of telehealth and in-person sessions.
• Liaise with carers, NGOs, and primary care providers, with a focus on capacity building within the team and supporting outreach to other support services.
• Deliver education and management advice to local primary care providers and allied health staff to optimise patient care.
• Apply knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme and familiarity with local services and NGOs to alleviate carer burden and provide comprehensive care.
• Uphold core NSW public sector values, including cultural diversity, equity, ethical practice, and contributing to a healthy, safe, and fair workplace.
• Participate in teaching medical students and other hospital staff when reasonably requested.
• Engage in clinical quality improvement, peer review, and adhere to equal employment opportunity and occupational health, safety, and rehabilitation standards.

Requirements

• Demonstrated significant experience in the assessment of individuals with intellectual disability.
• Experience working in rural settings and via telehealth is desirable.
• Medical qualification registerable with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry and proof of recognition as a specialist by the Specialists Recognition Advisory Committee.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously within a multi-disciplinary healthcare team and communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff.
• Commitment to continuing medical education relevant to the area of practice and willingness to participate in an equitable hospital on-call roster.
• Understanding of and commitment to clinical quality improvement, peer review, equal employment opportunity, and occupational health, safety, and rehabilitation.
