About The Role

The Staff Machine Learning Engineer at Striveworks is a senior technical leader responsible for designing, developing, deploying, and maintaining cutting-edge AI solutions. This role involves direct engagement with clients and internal teams to define requirements, architect scalable machine learning models, and oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of AI-powered systems. The successful candidate will bring a blend of software engineering expertise and data science acumen to solve real-world problems across various data modalities, including image, video, text, geospatial, and time series data. You will lead cross-functional teams, guide technical strategy, and contribute hands-on to critical projects. Additionally, you will play a key role in shaping the company's platform capabilities, ensuring the delivery of reliable, scalable, and efficient AI solutions that meet the rigorous demands of mission-critical environments. This position offers flexibility with remote work options or hybrid arrangements at our Austin, Texas office, with travel up to 20% as needed.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in data science, machine learning, computer science, or a related discipline
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in machine learning, data science, or software engineering
  • Proficiency in Python, with extensive experience using libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and scikit-learn
  • Strong systems programming skills in languages like Go, Rust, C++, Java, or Scala
  • Experience designing and deploying algorithms, data structures, and analytics in cloud environments
  • Proven track record of delivering complex technical solutions in production environments
  • Familiarity with modern software engineering practices including Agile, version control, CI/CD, and debugging tools
  • Experience leading and mentoring cross-functional teams across remote and on-site locations
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Eligibility and willingness to obtain and maintain a US Secret (or higher) security clearance
  • U.S. citizenship required

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clients, engineers, and stakeholders to gather and define project requirements that leverage AI capabilities to solve real-world problems
  • Translate business requirements into technical approaches, design specifications, and project plans
  • Lead and coordinate execution teams to ensure timely delivery of project milestones aligned with customer value
  • Design, orchestrate, and automate complex data pipelines and machine learning algorithms within modern architectures such as cloud, microservices, and event-driven systems
  • Guide the development and refinement of machine learning models across diverse data types including images, videos, text, and geospatial data
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, reusable functionality, and new business avenues through insights and feedback
  • Engage in fieldwork and interface directly with customers and stakeholders at operational sites to ensure solutions meet real-world needs
  • Contribute to the evolution of the company's AI platform by informing future capabilities and features
