Reports to: SunMisc General Manager • Department: Sales and Estimating – SunMisc • Location: Vancouver, WA • Hourly: $28.00 - $35.00

About the role

Conducts sales and marketing activities consistent with company mission, values, and departmental financial objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Meets the departmental objectives as established by the General Manager.
  • Reviews RFQ’s when they come in and determines if it is a good fit for SunMisc.
  • Compiles lists of prospective customers and projects available for bid, for use as sales leads, based on information from newspapers, business directories, dealers, original equipment manufacturers, and other sources (i.e., established customers).
  • Reviews drawings and project schedules.
  • Helps determine subcontractors and project scope.
  • Sends RFI’s when estimating has project questions.
  • Assists with reviewing and completing proposals.
  • Submits bids to the customer.
  • Maintains contact with customer throughout the entire job to ensure customer satisfaction, assists in problem solving, and documents complaints or product deficiencies.
  • Interprets and explains quotes to customers, including exclusions and qualifications.
  • Follows up on projects and bid status post bid.
  • Monitors activities and pricing levels of competitors.
  • Continually profiles each account to determine customer needs and identifies decision makers.
  • Contacts current contractors about any upcoming projects.
  • Assists in quoting/estimating when needed, including:
    • Performing takeoffs
    • Filling out recaps
    • Writing proposals
  • Obtains information relative to loads, usage, obstructions, layout, or special conditions which affect the product.
  • Assists Credit Manager in resolution of credit problems.
  • Coordinates liaison between sales department and other sales-related units and departments.
  • Maintains a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating effectively with customers, co-workers, clients, and supervisors.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned by the general manager.

Requirements

  • Four years of sales and/or estimating experience in the steel industry.
  • Knowledge and understanding of building construction combined with steel design concepts presented on architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Ability to use computer software (MS Windows) and Company software for designing, pricing, and marketing.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or the board of officers/directors.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest and profit margin.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic geometry and trigonometry.
  • Extensive understanding of verbal and written contract agreements as related to acceptable industry standards.
  • Ability to use AISC Manual for related material dimensions and properties.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge and history of acceptable selling practices in this specific industry and the ability to establish good rapport with customers.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit; occasionally stands and walks.
  • Uses hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reaches with hands and arms.
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Seldom lifts and/or moves up to 30 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • General office setting with constant exposure to computer display.
  • Occasional interaction with production employees in the fabrication facility.

Safety

  • In the office setting, this is generally not a safety-sensitive position.
  • May be required to be on-site at a job site, in which case, you must follow all safety rules established by the contractor.
  • A pre-employment drug screening must be passed, and continued random drug screening will be administered if employment is offered.
