Ministry Intern
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Participate in Worship and Christian education programs (Sunday School, Bible Studies, Corps Cadets, Small Groups etc.,) including planning, leading meetings, preaching, teaching, and supporting others in those roles.
- Participate in and coordinate, as assigned, the development of corps programming, worship arts, music programs, special programming (i.e. VBS, day camps, outreaches character building and leadership training) for corps members.
- Represent the Army at community events including, but not limited to, service clubs, committee participation, school functions, and ministerial associations.
- Participation in and development of community center, social service, and core corps programs.
- Participation and coordination of seasonal programs including summer camping programs and other special events.
- Participation in pastoral and evangelistic ministries, Pastoral Care Council, Corps Council and youth and adult planning committees.
- Participate in property upkeep, vehicle maintenance, and facility preparation for programming including introduction of TSAMM usage.
- Participate in corps financial goals by learning the budget process, financial and accounting practices, and support of fund-raising efforts.
- Participation in social services programs to include Emergency Assistance programs, Pathway of Hope, food pantry programs, seasonal assistance (i.e. Day Camp & Back to School), as well as required documentation procedures.
BASIC FUNCTION AND POSITION
The Ministry Discovery Program Intern will experience the holistic ministry and mission of The Salvation Army. This will require that duties and responsibilities be adjusted as Corps programming and needs change with seasons, training emphasis and local service priorities, all carries the intent of giving a well-rounded experience and exposure to Salvation Army programming and leadership.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports directly with the Corps Officer(s). They work with other staff, public, clients, program participants, parents, community leaders, volunteers, community service workers, outside groups, and community residents. This position will supervise youth and program participants, volunteers, and community service workers. In contacts related to this position’s duties, this individual acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved. Timeliness and accuracy of accomplishing assigned goals will be reviewed and an evaluation of how effectively service is provided will be done. An evaluation of how effectively service is provided will be conducted weekly with Corps Officers.
Education /Experience
- Must be a Christian with the intent of entering ministry.
- This individual must be of good character and maturity.
- Three to four years of college or three to four years in full-time non-Salvation Army ministry preferred.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- This position is required to do significant physical work and must be able to lift 10 pounds.
- In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the Intern is regularly required to use standard office equipment and PC, participation in athletic activities.
- The work environment for this position includes a community center environment with a high noise level.
- Must be able to walk stairs.
- Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
