Mining Superintendent

About the role

The Mine Superintendent at Ferroglobe USA Quartz in Lowndesboro, Alabama is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant operation of quartz mining activities. This role provides leadership to mine operations, maintenance, and technical staff to ensure production targets, cost controls, and quality standards are consistently met while adhering to MSHA regulations and company safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day mining operations, ensuring productivity targets are met or exceeded.
• Develop and implement efficient mining plans to optimize quartz extraction and processing.
• Manage the operations and maintenance of the plant, including the Wash plant, Power Screen, and Log Washer.
• Monitor equipment performance and coordinate maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
• Personally operate mining equipment as needed, demonstrating expertise and setting operational standards.
• Champion a culture of safety, ensuring all mining activities adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct regular safety meetings, training sessions, and audits to identify and address potential hazards.
• Collaborate with regulatory agencies to maintain compliance and facilitate inspections.
• Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performance mining team.
• Provide guidance and training to staff on safety protocols, equipment operation, and best practices.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
• Cook up with other departments to optimize resource utilization and logistics.
• Personally operate and supervise the operation of mining equipment to ensure optimal performance.

Requirements

• Ability to work on call as needed
• Current MSHA Certification
• Proven experience (7+ years) in a supervisory or management role within the mining industry, with a focus on quartz.
• Strong understanding of safety regulations and environmental compliance in mining operations.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills
• Proficient in the use of mining software and technologies.
• Ability to operate and supervise the operation of various mining equipment.
