About the Role

Develop, design, and communicate all necessary mine plans within the engineer’s pit region. Collect volumetrics for end-of-month reporting and budgeting.

Responsibilities

  • Visibly support and champion Peabody’s Mission and Values.
  • Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System.
  • Develop and maintain maps for mine planning, quality evaluations, property control, obstacle mitigation, and permitting for all active, proposed, and closed mining operations.
  • Design and communicate mine plan designs, including dragline design, dozer pad design, topsoil limits, Truck/Shovel dump files, and Truck/Shovel grade files.
  • Accurately gather and record production and engineering data.
  • Develop schedules for mine plan designs to ensure timely coal uncovering and shipment quantities.
  • Create reclamation schedules and designs to restore land to Post Mine Topography and achieve maximum bond release.
  • Assist the Engineering Department with special projects and project management as needed.
  • Perform engineering calculations for volumetrics, short to mid-range mine planning, and coal quality.
  • Conduct monthly safety observations and audits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Company.

Requirements

  • High level of math skills with ability to perform survey and volumetric calculations.
  • Experience working with survey data to develop base mapping for mine-related operations.
  • Proficiency with AutoCad/SurvCadd, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
  • Experience with Vulcan software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • 5-7 years of experience in mining-related surveying and/or engineering.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying, Technology, or Mining/Civil Engineering or related field.
  • FE/EIT certification (preferred).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift.
  • Ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
  • Ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb stairs/steps, and climb on/off equipment and ladders.
  • Ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other PPE as mandated by Company and MSHA.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle) and rapid reflex movements of arms and legs with good hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to lift/raise 10–50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during a shift.
  • Ability to work in extreme conditions, including changing weather, dust, mud, varying noise levels, light/dark environments, and confined spaces.

Schedule

Various shifts required, including days, evenings, nights, rotating schedules, weekends, and holidays.
