About the role

Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, the Mine Hydrogeologist will assist the project by collecting, processing, and interpreting hydrogeological data. The role provides a diverse experience working with various professionals across departments, with responsibilities both in the field and in the office.

Responsibilities

  • Support the senior geotechnical engineer with the feasibility study by critically assessing technical and financial aspects of the project.
  • Independently perform routine tasks such as collecting and assessing hydrogeological data, identifying hazards, conducting site inspections, and preparing reports.
  • Coordinate with staff and consultants.
  • Review and perform borehole testing, including packer, airlift, pump, and injection tests.
  • Collect and assess monitoring data.
  • Perform QA/QC on hydrogeological and geotechnical data.
  • Read technical reports and provide summaries of their contents.
  • Assist with developing groundwater monitoring plans and data collection systems.
  • Provide support on projects related to hydrology and the geotechnical program.
  • Complete workplace examinations to identify safety hazards.
  • Assist with planning for hydrology and geotechnical data acquisition in support of the feasibility study.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Engineering or Science in Hydrology, Mining, Civil, Geological, Geotechnical, or a related engineering/science discipline.
  • Previous experience installing piezometers and performing borehole testing.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and related software.
  • Ability to travel to and from sites.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience at a mine site.
  • Experience with ArcGIS, QGIS, MODFLOW, SEEP/W, MinePlan, or other related software.

Physical Demands

The role requires regular communication, frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be required. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities may also be required.

Work Environment

The work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions (e.g., hot and/or dry conditions), noise, fumes, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. Employees may be required to drive a company vehicle, rental vehicle, or personal vehicle and must possess a valid driver’s license.
