Millwright Superintendent

About the Role

The Millwright Superintendent manages millwright crews on large-scale projects, maintaining communication with clients and project coordinators. They oversee daily job site operations, ensuring company, employee, and customer needs are met while prioritizing safety, effectiveness, and efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage millwright crews to ensure work is completed on time, within budget, and aligned with project objectives.
• Delegate tasks to millwrights based on their strengths and skill sets for efficient team utilization.
• Collaborate with electrical, piping, and rigging teams to synchronize all project aspects.
• Oversee the delivery and distribution of project materials to ensure timely availability.
• Inspect crew work to ensure it meets company quality standards and project specifications.
• Lead installations by interpreting blueprints and schematics for accurate assembly.
• Identify and resolve mechanical issues on-site to minimize delays.
• Enforce safety protocols and recognize potential safety risks to maintain a secure work environment.
• Update project managers on progress, milestones, and any issues impacting the timeline.
• Develop and manage detailed work schedules for crews to ensure timely task completion.
• Maintain client relationships through regular communication, addressing concerns or changes.
• Anticipate future resource needs (manpower, equipment) and coordinate procurement to prevent delays.
• Conduct performance evaluations for millwright crew members, providing feedback and addressing performance issues.

Requirements

• 30-hour Construction OSHA certification (required).
• NCCER certification (preferred but not required).
• 4+ years of experience in a Millwright Supervision role (required).
• 6+ years of hands-on experience as a Millwright (required).
• Experience with heavy equipment installation and removal in Autostore or EV battery settings (highly desirable).
• Rigging experience (preferred but not required).

• Precision Installation Skills: Extensive experience with precise installation, alignment, and assembly of machinery.
• Troubleshooting & Diagnostics: Ability to quickly identify and resolve mechanical issues.
• Heavy Equipment Operation: Proficient in operating cranes, hoists, and other heavy machinery.
• Welding & Fabrication: Expertise in welding, cutting, and fabricating metal parts for repairs or installations.
• Project Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and crews while adhering to schedule and budget.
• Safety Compliance & Hazard Identification: Strong understanding of safety standards and enforcement on-site.
• Materials & Resource Coordination: Experienced in managing materials, tools, and equipment for large projects.
• Structural & Mechanical Installation: In-depth knowledge of pumps, conveyors, and industrial systems.
• Leadership & Crew Supervision: Proven ability to lead and mentor millwrights for team efficiency.
• Strong Communication Skills: Effective in conveying technical information and coordinating with teams or contractors.
• Client-Facing Communication: Comfortable interacting with clients to address project progress and concerns.
• Rigging Expertise: Skilled in rigging practices for moving and installing heavy machinery.
• Troubleshooting Advanced Systems: Experience diagnosing issues in hydraulics, pneumatics, and automated machinery.

Physical Demands

The role requires continual sitting, use of hands, talking, and hearing, as well as standing, walking, driving, climbing, and stooping/kneeling. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more with assistance.

Work Environment

This is a traveling indoor/outdoor position with exposure to adverse conditions such as dirt, noise, fumes, heat, and cold. Travel is required at 100%.
