About the Role

To install, remove, and/or modify machinery and equipment pertaining to heavy industrial applications.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret measuring tools such as tape measures, speed squares, and framing squares to perform tasks accurately.
  • Fully understand Plant North and drawing coordinates.
  • Assist in moving machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
  • Assist in assembling and installing various types of equipment and machinery using hand tools and power tools.
  • Assist in constructing foundations for machinery and equipment using building materials such as wood, cement, and steel.
  • Assist in motor and equipment alignment using tools and methods including feeler gauges, squares, rules, micrometers, plumb bobs, dial indicators, and laser alignment.
  • Assist in using machinery or tools to grind, file, and/or tune machine parts into dimensional specifications.
  • Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.
  • Take direction from a higher-skilled worker or foreman.
  • Maintain basic knowledge of the construction processes involved in heavy industrial construction.
  • Support the project with other tasks as directed by supervision.
  • Communicate with the Foreman regarding any problems arising, materials required, or hazards noted.
  • Work different shifts and overtime as required.
  • Work under production schedule pressure and attain set standards of accuracy.
  • Perform duties in a safe manner.
  • Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
  • Actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors when on-site.
  • Set a personal example of safe behavior.

Requirements

  • 3-4 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Perform basic arithmetic operations: add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's, and use units of weight measurement and volume.
  • Apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
  • Work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards.
  • Ability to work under varying environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats, and vests.
  • Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
  • Work at heights and comply with all safety and fall-protection requirements; wear and utilize all required safety equipment.
  • Evaluate information based on measurable standards and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings in objects or drawings.
  • Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings.
  • Maintain good balance and work at heights.
  • See well (naturally or with correction) and hear well (naturally or with correction).
  • Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.

Physical Demands

  • Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
  • Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully.
  • Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
  • Perform tasks repetitively and continuously for several-hour intervals.
  • Work in uncontrolled environmental conditions with constant changes in weather and site conditions.
  • Moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

Pay

$30.00 / hour, commensurate with experience.
