About the role

MEI Industrial Solutions is seeking a Millwright to install, repair, and reassemble machinery in factories, construction sites, and other industries, including moving and relocating machinery. The role requires familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in the field and involves hands-on work guided by MEI’s values of integrity, respect, professionalism, safety, commitment, and results.

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain machinery and equipment using hoists, lift trucks, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, and position parts to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts.
  • Align machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, measuring instruments, levels, lasers, and plumb bobs.
  • Level and establish centerlines using straightedges, levels, and transits.
  • Shrink-fit bushings, sleeves, rings, liners, gears, and wheels to specified items using portable gas heating equipment.
  • Dismantle machinery and equipment for shipment to installation sites; perform installation and maintenance as part of a team.
  • Construct foundations for machines using hand tools and building materials such as wood, cement, grout, and/or steel.
  • Replace defective parts, adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts, and ensure optimal performance.
  • Ensure assigned work is understood before commencing; comply with MEI’s Health and Safety Manual and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Complete housekeeping duties daily and/or as required; finish assigned work within given timeframes and specifications.
  • Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials.
  • Test rigging to ensure safety and reliability; attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving using hand and power tools.
  • Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches based on load weights and sizes, facility constraints, and work schedules.
  • Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment.
  • Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and/or around obstacles using multi-point suspension techniques.
  • Install ground rigging for yarding lines; attach chokers to logs and then to the lines.
  • Align, level, and anchor machinery; fabricate, set up, and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear using hand and power tools.
  • Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials such as heavy equipment, ships, or theatrical sets.
  • Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms using bolts and clamps.
  • Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use.
  • Operate vehicles or mechanized equipment such as forklifts or passenger vehicles.
  • Control machines and processes using control mechanisms or direct physical activity (excluding computers or vehicles).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum three (3) years of Millwright experience or comparable field experience in the construction service industry.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent necessary; higher education preferred for advanced Millwright positions.
  • Three to five years of Millwright or directly relatable experience; additional years preferred for advanced positions.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others and manage time efficiently.
  • Knowledge of employee life-cycle processes including hiring/firing and employment changes.
  • Advanced use of or knowledge in jack skating, leveling tools, dollies, etc.
  • Ability to instruct, guide, and/or mentor others in safety protocol and standard rigging practices.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Perform general physical activities requiring considerable use of arms, legs, and whole body such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work off the ground at varying heights and not be affected by moving machinery or parts.
  • Willing and able to work in non-temperature-controlled environments and/or outdoors in all types of weather, and over uneven ground or terrain.
