About the role

Tomah Area School District is seeking an innovative educator who can work collaboratively with colleagues, develop positive relationships with students and parents, and build partnerships with the community. This position requires a dynamic and progressive teacher with a strong background in:

  • WiMLSS
  • Professional Learning Communities
  • Universal Design for Learning or Differentiated Instruction
  • Elementary Teacher Literacy Training (Act 20) Documentation

The preferred candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be highly organized, and demonstrate a positive attitude. Knowledge of special education programs, processes, and procedures is preferred, especially functional behavioral assessments and behavior intervention plans. Strong behavior management skills are required, with training and/or experience in working with students with behavioral and/or emotional difficulties. Candidates must have knowledge of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI or ProACT) strategies and techniques, or willingness to be trained. Background in mental health practices is also preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach in a self-contained elementary special education setting for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities (EBD).

Qualifications

Must have, or be eligible for, a Wisconsin DPI license #1830 (Emotional Behavioral Disability) or #1801 (Cross-Categorical Special Education). Applicants who hold a valid regular education DPI Teaching certification in any area and are interested in pursuing an emergency special education license for this position may also apply.

Schedule

Full-time position beginning in the 2026-2027 school year. Co-curricular coaching and advisor positions are available.
