About the role

As a Mill General Helper at Bull Moose Tube, you will assist with machine operations, maintain a clean and organized workspace, and help ensure the production line runs smoothly. You'll follow safety protocols rigorously while collaborating closely with team members to identify and solve production challenges.

Utilize and operate equipment, material, and tools in the inspection and production process for slitting. Oversee all slitting functions, including slitting master coils into respective slit coils of various blank widths for use on the mills. Responsible for the safe operation of the slitter and all ancillary activities that support the production of quality slit coils for internal customers. Complies with all safety, quality, customer focus, preventative maintenance, and housekeeping standards. All other duties as assigned.

Pay

Competitive pay rate starting at $20.45 per hour for the first 30 days, then $27.45 until qualified, and $29.00 - $31.00 per hour thereafter.

Schedule

This position typically works Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays, on 8-hour shifts (11 PM - 7 AM or 3 PM - 11 PM). Opportunities for occasional overtime are available.

Work Environment

The work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical equipment, parts, and vibration. The area can be exposed to heat or cold conditions, and noise levels require the use of PPE hearing protection. Building temperatures vary, ranging from cold in winter to temperate in summer. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory and includes a hard hat, safety glasses, earplugs, metatarsal boots, and Kevlar cut-resistant gloves while handling tubing.

Responsibilities

• Read and apply micrometer, caliper, gauges, and tape measure
• Read and interpret slitter schedule
• Understand and use shop floor system
• Select proper master coils to match slitter schedule
• Enter master coils into slitter
• Use coil car, turnstile, and controls for all slitter equipment
• Operate all coil entry equipment and controls
• Proper threading of coil(s) through slitter head to re-coiler
• Un-banding and proper banding of coils
• Slitter setup: proper setup of head to match schedule; set up of rubbers, spacers, knives
• Proper setup of over arm and under arm separator shafts
• Maintain complete knowledge of Company Safety Rules and precautions
• Maintain complete knowledge of Company quality requirements
• Maintain complete knowledge of Company housekeeping rules
• Operate forklift and overhead crane
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance
• Work cooperatively with others to ensure constructive and productive business relationships
• Comply with all Company policies and procedures
• Understand and effectively use computerized business systems and other technology platforms

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Prior manufacturing experience
• Machine operating skills or ability to learn and comprehend
• Proficiency in operating slitting equipment and coil cars
• Knowledge of metal slitting processes and setups
• Ability to read and use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and tape measures
• Ability to interpret slitter schedules and use shop-floor systems
• Certifications for forklift and overhead crane operation
• Strong understanding of safety protocols and mandatory PPE use
• Ability to lift up to 100 lbs
• Familiarity with quality and housekeeping standards
• Basic computer proficiency for navigating business systems
• Speak and read English
