Military and Family Life Counselor - Barksdale, LA
Leidos is hiring licensed behavioral health professionals to join our Adult Military and Family Life Counseling (MFLC) team to support Barksdale AFB near Bossier City, LA. This role supports U.S. military service members and their families as they navigate military life adjustments, providing non-medical counseling, consultation, and outreach.
About the role
The Adult Military and Family Life Counselor (Adult-MFLC) provides preventive, solution-focused non-medical counseling to service members, military family members, and eligible staff. This role addresses emotional and environmental challenges unique to military life, offering support through counseling, coaching, and outreach.
Responsibilities
- Provide face-to-face counseling to military service members and their families (individuals, couples, and families).
- Observe, participate, and engage in activities with service members, military spouses, and families; provide coaching, guidance, and support to installation staff; and model behavior management techniques.
- Offer presentations to service members, military families, and military leadership at military-connected events.
- Promote creativity and positivity through approved materials.
- Build rapport with parents and families by attending installation and community events.
- Assist with transition adjustments, such as relocating to a new school or home.
- Participate in regular in-service training or other contract activities as assigned.
- Communicate trends and issues at the assigned installation to Team Leads.
- Respond to emergent situations in any physical location on a military installation.
- Traverse long distances to both indoor and outdoor locations, including rugged or uneven terrain, and work in outdoor weather conditions.
- Travel to locations outside of a military base in various physical environments.
- Comply with site-specific requirements to work at designated military locations.
Work Environment
Duties are performed in multiple indoor (approximately 60%) and outdoor (approximately 40%) locations on military installations. Outdoor work involves traversing uneven grassy, gravel, or dirt areas, ascending/descending stairs, and exposure to weather conditions.
Requirements
- A Master’s degree or higher in the Behavioral Health Professions (MS/MSW/MA/PhD).
- Licensure to practice at the independent practice level (LCSW, MFT, LPCC, Psychologist) in the state where services are provided.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Ability to pass a basic background check for employment, including a Child National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI/CNACI) clearance (Public Trust clearance).
Licensure Portability
Under the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), licensed Military and Family Life Counselors may provide non-medical counseling services to military families at any U.S. location, regardless of the state where the counselor is licensed. The MFLC program recognizes any independent and clinical license deemed appropriate by the Secretary of Defense for non-medical counseling services.

Pay
Pay Range: $59,150.00 - $106,925.00. The Leidos pay range is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation. Additional factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, and internal equity may influence the final offer.
