Military and Family Life Counselor (Adult)

About the role

Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLCs) provide assessment, short-term, solution-focused counseling services and non-traditional walk around participant outreach to eligible individuals, marital or intimate partners, families, and groups. Services are tailored to address the specific needs of adult military members, caregivers, and spouses, enhancing their ability to cope with the challenges of military life.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Works in partnership with installation and uniformed Points of Contact (POC) to ensure needs of service-members, families, and program requirements are met.
• MFLC Counselors provide assessment and short-term, solution-focused counseling services to eligible individuals, marital or intimate partners, families, and groups.
• Accurately assess clients’ presenting problems and plan effective treatment.
• Provide preventative models to strengthen readiness and resilience among service members and their families.
• Interact comfortably with all ranks within the military structure and manage duty to warn and restricted reporting situations according to DoD protocol.
• Attend and brief at brigade and battalion staff meetings, support installation events, fairs, and ceremonies, and respond to critical incidents, surge, and on-demand events.
• Enter daily counselor activity reporting through issued equipment while ensuring accurate reporting and maintaining confidentiality.

Required Qualifications

• U.S. citizen and fluent in English.
• Master's degree or higher in a relevant behavioral health field.
• Valid independent license in the mental health field from any US state or territory (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, LMHC, Psychologist).
• Pass a basic background check, NACI/CNACI clearance, and installation-specific requirements.
• Knowledge of military life adjustments and available resources.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior military service or familiarity with military culture.
• Experience developing productive relationships with high-ranking military personnel.
• Prior service as an MFLC counselor.

Physical Demands

Works in office areas. Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours. Uses personal computer, telephones, copiers, printers, and other office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 10 pounds.
