About the role

An opportunity has arisen for a Midwife Sonographer or Radiographer Sonographer within the Obstetric Ultrasound Department. Substantive Band 7 hours are available for Midwives or Radiographers who have completed their PG Cert in Obstetric Ultrasound and a period of consolidation. An awareness of National Drivers in Ultrasound (Saving Babies Lives V.3) and the Fetal Anomaly Screening Programme is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Work autonomously scanning in both the antenatal ultrasound department and the Maternity Assessment Unit/Ward 41.
  • Perform 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimester screening scans and report/refer as per guidelines.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary team working to ensure safe, harm-free patient care.
  • Adhere to ultrasound guidelines and manage referrals in line with these guidelines.
  • Escalate safeguarding concerns appropriately.
  • Communicate scan results to women and arrange follow-up care as necessary.
  • Assist with the training of multidisciplinary staff within the department.
  • Contribute to audit and research activities in the department.
  • Opportunities to extend ultrasound skills in transvaginal ultrasound, external cephalic version, SGA/FGR surveillance, and multiple pregnancy scanning.

Requirements

Midwife Sonographer Criteria:

  • Essential:
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Basic IT skills
    • Evidence of continuous professional and personal development
    • First degree or equivalent and related study
    • Registered Midwife
    • Post Graduate Certificate in obstetric ultrasound
    • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification or equivalent experience
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in all obstetric ultrasound scanning including transvaginal, Doppler, and Nuchal translucency
    • Post Graduate Diploma in medical ultrasound
    • Accreditation for Nuchal translucency certification with continuous annual assessment

Radiographer Sonographer Criteria:

  • Essential:
    • Post Graduate Diploma in medical Ultrasound
    • First Level degree or equivalent in related study
    • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification or equivalent experience
    • Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD)
    • Post qualification experience in obstetric scanning
    • Knowledge of risk management and audit
    • IT literate
    • Excellent communication skills (written/verbal)
    • Counselling skills
    • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in all obstetric ultrasound scanning including transvaginal, Doppler, and Nuchal Translucency
    • Accreditation for Nuchal Translucency
    • Involvement in research
    • ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence)
    • Experience of teaching skills to fellow practitioners
