Middleware Software Engineer Intern - Fall 2026
About the role
The Device Platform - Middleware team at Skydio is responsible for the foundational infrastructure that underlies Skydio devices. This includes software updates, logging, media management, inter-process communication, and the event loop. Interns will work on real projects that have a visible impact on our products, collaborating with teams across the company such as Embedded Systems, Design, Flight Test, and Customer Support.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement software that runs on the drone and our growing accessory product lines.
- Work on real projects that have a visible impact on our products.
- Collaborate with other members of the Middleware team.
- Have a strong sense of ownership and autonomy over your work.
Requirements
- A junior, senior, or MS-level student, preferably having taken Computer Systems classes.
- Experience with C++ and Python.
- An understanding of concurrency – multi-threading, multi-processing, and how to handle race conditions.
- Ability to write clean code with appropriate abstraction boundaries.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to debug complex issues and propose effective solutions.
Qualifications

Pay
The hourly rate for this position is $47/hr for Undergrad, $53/hr for Graduate students, and $58/hr for PhD students. Compensation will vary based on factors, including skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience.
Schedule
Interns will work full-time, typically 40 hours per week.
