Middleware Integration Engineer

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain middleware components on various operating systems using Terraform, Ansible, and GitOps.
  • Design and advise on application development utilizing middleware products, ensuring best practices.
  • Configure and manage production, development, and testing environments to ensure high availability of services.
  • Develop complex automation scripts with Jenkins and Ansible to streamline deployment and operations.
  • Perform performance tuning of middleware components and services to optimize efficiency.
  • Design disaster recovery solutions for middleware platforms to meet business continuity requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve configuration issues in both production and non-production environments.
  • Support debugging of middleware application defects for development and support teams.
  • Document procedures and troubleshooting steps related to middleware products.
  • Lead or participate in moderately to highly complex projects, ensuring security and compliance standards are met.
  • Manage vulnerabilities, patching, password rotations, and certificate renewals for middleware components such as Apigee, NGINX, and SFTP gateways, addressing CVEs and applying security patches.
  • Harden middleware and API gateway configurations against industry security benchmarks, enforcing least-privilege access, auditing, and encryption standards.
  • Collaborate with security teams to track remediation efforts, report on vulnerability status, and ensure compliance with audit timelines.
  • Provide day-to-day management of middleware staff when required, supporting operational excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience designing, deploying, and orchestrating middleware technologies, specifically Apigee and NGINX, leveraging Terraform, Ansible, and GitOps on Kubernetes clusters.
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience with Terraform and Ansible for middleware deployment.
  • 4+ years of configuring and troubleshooting proxies on Apigee, including API proxy design, OAuth 2.0, API key security, and environment promotion.
  • 4+ years of experience with NGINX reverse proxy, load balancing, SSL/TLS termination, and ingress deployment on Kubernetes/OpenShift.
  • 2+ years supporting SFTP gateways and managed file transfer solutions, including key-based authentication and transfer monitoring.
  • 2+ years supporting applications on Rancher and OpenShift environments.
  • 2+ years writing operational and environment provisioning pipelines using Jenkins.
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery strategies, failover planning, and multi-data center application architecture.
  • Familiarity with vulnerability scanning tools (e.g., Nessus, Qualys) and applying CVE-based patches in regulated environments.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, communication skills, and accountability.
