Great Oaks Charter Schools aims to mold students who will shape the world, not be defined by it. Our approach centers around the design principles of Mastery, Leadership, and Community to foster students' ability to be confident, persist through challenges, and embrace failure as an opportunity to learn and grow. About Great Oaks Charter School – New York City

The Great Oaks Charter School - New York City (GO-NYC) opened in Fall 2013 on the Lower East Side of Manhattan and currently serves approximately 310 students in 6th-11th grades. At scale, GO-NYC will serve students in grades 6th-12th. The school recently relocated to 240 Bleecker Street in the West Village. GO-NYC utilizes a full inclusion model, meaning every core class is taught as an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom. Classrooms typically include two co-teachers (one content, one special education) and an Americorps Fellow working with students daily.

We provide multiple and diverse opportunities for students to develop significant knowledge and skills, produce original work, and connect their learning to their identities and aspirations. We measure and reflect on student progress by understanding grade-level challenges and triumphs. We view mistakes as opportunities for growth and use data daily to improve and innovate instruction.

We create a safe learning environment and a sense of belonging where students explore their passions, purpose, and self-knowledge. We partner with families to increase investment and connection. Socio-emotional learning and trauma-informed practices are prioritized so students feel known, loved, and valued. We support students both inside and outside the classroom.

Responsibilities

• Curriculum & Instruction
  • Demonstrate solid knowledge and understanding of STEM content.
  • Establish, communicate, and demand high expectations for student learning and quality of work.
  • Use a variety of academically rigorous and highly engaging instructional strategies and activities.
  • Execute detailed lesson plans mapped to a year-long academic plan to address learning needs.
  • Take full responsibility for student success and failure, constantly working to respond to learning needs.
  • Consistently reinforce the importance of the work, student capability, and your commitment to their success.
• Data Analysis
  • Track and analyze student data to identify learning needs and set ambitious, attainable goals for progress.
  • Plan and implement strategies to achieve targets related to student learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the principal and other teachers to develop and revise curriculum based on assessment data.
• Classroom Environment
  • Maintain an efficient, respectful, and positive classroom tone.
  • Maximize instructional time and communicate a constant, tangible sense of urgency.
  • Ensure all students remain on task during lessons.
  • Clearly enforce and emphasize school rules, values, and expectations.
  • Build relationships with students that demonstrate concern and responsibility for their academic and personal growth.
  • Supervise students during lunch and transition periods.
• Additional Responsibilities
  • Dedicate extra time and effort to contribute to student and school success.
  • Independently assume additional responsibilities and demonstrate leadership as needed.
  • Maintain frequent communication with parents regarding student successes and struggles.
  • Support an orderly school culture.
  • Occasionally lead professional development sessions.
  • Perform other duties necessary to fulfill the school’s mission.

Requirements

• Proven success in implementing high-quality instruction that improves student achievement in an urban school.
• Exceptional relationship-building skills and the ability to communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders.
• A strong academic record with a Bachelor’s degree from a competitive college or university (required); advanced degree in subject area (preferred).
• State teaching certification (strongly preferred).
• Extremely strong classroom management abilities.
• A strong belief that all students can succeed.
• A "do-whatever-it-takes" attitude, including occasional weekend or evening work.
• Exceptional ability to respond well to feedback and implement it immediately.

Pay

Great Oaks provides a competitive compensation and benefits package. Exact compensation varies based on experience, certification, and education. The anticipated salary range is between $63,000 - $95,000.

All staff must pass a background check through fingerprinting and receive security clearance to work at Great Oaks NYC. Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident status is required. This position is for the 2026-2027 school year.
