Middle School Science Teacher

About the Role

The Middle School Science Teacher supports the instructional process by developing student success in academics and skills, delivering lesson plans, and supervising students. This role involves collaboration with teachers, staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom issues, as well as responding to parent inquiries about student progress.

Responsibilities

• Administers subject-specific assessments, district assessments, and state tests (e.g., MAP) to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
• Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
• Analyzes test data to enhance student achievement.
• Assesses student progress toward objectives, expectations, and goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
• Collaborates with professional learning communities, instructional staff, school personnel, parents, business partners, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support school improvement goals.
• Counsels students to improve performance, health status, problem-solving skills, and address personal issues.
• Demonstrates methods required to complete classroom and/or subject-specific assignments to provide an effective instructional program that addresses individual student needs.
• Differentiates classroom instruction to provide instructional materials that support individualized learning within established lesson plans.
• Directs para-professionals, volunteers, and/or student workers to provide an effective classroom program that addresses individual student needs.
• Facilitates student learning (e.g., creating a learning environment, integrating technology, arranging field trips, organizing age-appropriate activities) to support success in academics, interpersonal, and daily living skills through lesson delivery.
• Instructs students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
• Interacts continually with students to educate and support learning.
• Maintains confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic files and records (e.g., grades, test scores) to provide up-to-date information and historical reference in accordance with administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
• Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g., classroom, campus grounds, field trips, clubs, sporting events, graduation, dances) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
• Participates in building- and district-level meetings (e.g., PLC, staff, SAP, department meetings) to convey and gather information required to perform job functions.
• Prepares written materials (e.g., grades, attendance records, anecdotal records, lesson plans, progress reports) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
• Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) to maintain student safety, provide a positive learning environment, and adhere to education code and school policies.
• Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and/or direct appropriate personnel for resolution.
• Responds to inquiries from students, parents, staff, administrators, and community members to provide information, resolve issues, and offer direction.

Requirements

• Job-related experience is desired.
• Bachelor’s degree in a job-related area.
• Missouri State Teaching Certificate.
• Must pass a pre-employment background check (criminal justice fingerprint/background clearance).
