Position Summary
Opportunity Charter School is actively seeking a dynamic and well-versed teacher who can effectively cater to the diverse needs of our exceptional student body. OCS teachers are data-driven and possess the skill to identify and address the individual needs of their students. We are searching for a dedicated individual who not only understands but also passionately advocates for our school's vision in every interaction with stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate enthusiasm for the subject matter and a genuine passion for fostering a love of learning in students.
- Engage in reflective practices, continually evaluating and refining teaching methods to enhance effectiveness.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to create, implement, and regularly review individualized education plans for students with special needs.
- Design and implement instructional plans aligned with curriculum standards, ensuring relevance and engagement for students.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse learning styles and abilities of students with special needs.
- Lead an advisory group and oversee the implementation of our social-emotional curriculum within that class.
- Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment, implementing effective behavior management strategies as needed.
- Handle conflicts or challenges within the classroom, promoting a respectful and supportive learning community using restorative practices.
- Conduct assessments to evaluate students' academic and developmental levels, and regularly monitor and document progress, and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other staff members to ensure the utilization of best practices with students.
- Stay informed about current trends, research, and best practices in education through ongoing professional development.
- Demonstrate teamwork, actively modeling cooperation and helpfulness for students.
- Incorporate relevant technology to enhance teaching and learning experiences, promoting digital literacy skills.
- Effectively communicate with students, parents, and colleagues, keeping them informed about progress, expectations, and any concerns.
- Promote a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment that respects and values diversity.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree preferred
- NYS Teacher Certification (Preferred)
- If not certified, documented evidence of progress/pathway toward obtaining NYS Teacher Certification is required
- Dual certification in Special Education and a subject area (Preferred)
