About the Company

Alabama Connections Academy (ALCA) is a tuition-free, online public school serving students in grades K–12 across Alabama. Authorized by the Limestone County School District, ALCA began serving students in the 2017-18 school year. The school contracts with Connections Education LLC to provide its educational program and other services. Connections Academy is accredited by Cognia. Responsibilities

  • Participate in the organization and administration of State Testing, as directed.
  • Attend local and state-provided professional development trainings related to Title III compliance and instruction.
  • Complete all grading, create progress reports, and conduct parent conferences in a timely manner.
  • Support the instructional program with asynchronous web conferencing sessions and synchronous instruction.
  • Become proficient with supplemental programs to support English Language Learners in the virtual setting, including interpreting data within the programs.
  • Review curriculum and devise alternate approaches to presenting lessons to increase student understanding (working directly with students and parents).
  • Communicate with parents, students, and other teachers regularly to develop and update Personal Learning Plans and schedules, score assessments, provide feedback on student work, suggest instructional approaches, monitor completion of assignments, and coach special projects.
  • Collaborate with school leadership to create and maintain the school’s English Learner Advisory Committee.
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers to ensure all students successfully progress through the program, parents have a central point of contact, and tasks are distributed among teachers.
  • Develop a general knowledge of the entire program’s K-12 curriculum and a detailed knowledge of assigned courses.
  • Support students and parents with alternate strategies and provide additional assistance with daily assignments and projects.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, students, and certified content area teachers via computer and telephone.
  • Maintain up-to-date student records and data, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance accounting, and logging all student and parent contacts.
  • Consult with other teachers and learning specialists to develop alternate enrichment activities and modifications to students’ programs to increase understanding.
  • Coordinate social activities and relevant field trips for students with other teachers.
  • Attend field trips and other community activities implemented for families.
  • Devise and implement virtual methods of creating and maintaining a “school community.”
  • Participate in student recruiting sessions and other marketing efforts requiring teacher representation.
  • Work with Advisory Teachers and school counselors to ensure students and families receive appropriate communications, students make adequate progress, and established goals are met.
  • Participate in professional development sessions and associated activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must reside within the state of Alabama.
  • Appropriately certified to teach in Alabama.
  • Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft OS and MS Office programs).
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Customer-focused approach.
  • High degree of flexibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team player track record.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for school-based meetings, trainings, marketing, and state testing events (may require occasional overnight travel).
  • Ability to work remotely, if necessary.
  • Ability to work some occasional evening hours to support families.
  • Must be able to use a personal electronic device and email address for 2-step authentication.
